Before you begin

Two things you will need.

• A view-only link to your complete draft. A PDF on Google Drive or Dropbox, shared so that anyone with the link can open it without requesting access. Test it in a private browser window first — a link we cannot open is the most common reason an application goes no further. It must be a whole script: not an outline, not a treatment, not forty good pages.
• An honest count of your hours. The room costs roughly twenty a week — about fifteen on your own rewrite and four or five on everybody else's. In the first fortnight you will read three feature screenplays properly. If that is not available to you right now, this is the wrong season, and it is much better to know it here than in week three.

The questions

What the form asks.

Five short sections: you, your script, what the script has already been through, the way you read other people's work, and the commitment.

Two questions matter more than the rest, and they are the ones worth thinking about before you start — what has this script already been through, and what did you make of the responses? and what do you already suspect is wrong with it?

Everybody knows something is not right. We are far more interested in a writer who can name it than in one who cannot.

Afterwards

What happens next.

1. Every application is read personally. By John, not by a filter, and not by a machine.
2. Shortlisted writers have a short conversation. Twenty minutes on a call, both ways. You should be deciding about us as much as we are about you.
3. The four of us agree a weekly time together and then fix it for the season. This is why the form asks so carefully about your availability — and why no time is advertised in advance.
4. If it is not the right season for you, we will say so. You will not be left wondering, and there is nothing we will try to sell you instead.

Your work

What happens to your script.

It is read by John during selection, and by the other three writers if you join the room. It is not published, shared, forwarded, submitted anywhere, sold, or put into an AI service. You keep complete ownership of it at every stage, and every member agrees to that in writing before the first session.

Please send only work you are comfortable having read, and nothing subject to an outside confidentiality obligation.
